A month ago he was excommunicated from the Hammerite order. Being removed from the only element he knew all his life, he has been forced to make a living as a guard for hire. Last night, he gave up on the value system of the order that rejected him and indulged in drunkenness and female "companionship". He and I got to chatting after his brief encounter with the lady of the night and I learned some interesting things. The Hammers apparently have knowledge of more advanced technology then they let themselves appear to possess; and in fact not all Hammers within the order are even aware of this. My ex-Hammerite "friend" accidently stumbled upon a book containing theory and plans for building a "seeing eye" device, something that will allow the wearer to see in complete darkness. It sounded quite far fetched to me. However, finding it irresistibly intriguing, he would sneak in to read these "classified" texts despite repeated reprimands for his actions. This apparently is what lead to his eventual dismissal from the order. The books are kept within Beggingham Keep, a stronghold of knowledge at the edge of the city where the foothills begin. It's probably the largest collection of books in the land. Most thieves haven't paid much attention to the Keep as they consider gold much more appealing than books. But now my curiosity has been kindled and I'm wondering just how much knowledge is housed within that rather large, ominous structure. Well, if getting books doesn't prove to be that lucrative, I can always visit the Keep's chapel St. Bentano's for a few valuables while I'm there. In his drunken stupor, Warren mentioned something about "catacombs in the tower" and "great heights" but I'm not sure what he meant by this. I'd better bring a few extra rope arrows just in case. There's a garbage shoot on the East wall that looks like a promising entrance.
