To solve the puzzle with the eight torches, choose any torch and call it #1. Call the torch on its right #2 and continue until #8. Use the magic wand on the torches in this order: 

1, 4, 7, 8, 2, 3, 5 and 6 (thanks to marukpa), or:
1, 4, 7, 2, 5, 8, 3 and 6 (move round 3 torches every time until you have frobbed 8 torches, thanks to ffox).
