The Night Watch

Mission #3 – Reorientation

Walkthrough

This mission starts in the East Gatehouse, where Nurse Kindly is tending Gwendoline. Pick up the household key from the bedside table and read the note. Objective Complete! You also receive some new objectives. Make your way to the hallways, turn right and walk round to the East Entrance to Lord Drakon's household.

The House

Unlock the door with the household key and creep in. Lurk in the shadows by the door and observe the guard patrols. When you are ready, move quietly towards the far end of the hall, but remember that you must not hurt anyone. Those double doors are flanked by pedestals which support dragon statues, but the doors are guarded! With careful timing it is possible to creep along the east and west walls and steal the statues from the pedestals without alerting the guards (+300). Obviously you can't get through those doors, so go back and turn into the hall on the west side. The doors at the end here can't be opened either, so the only remaining route is to vault the banisters on the north side into the room below.

The Trap

This is odd! The doors aren't actually doors and there are no hidden exits. However, there is a note inside the big vase on the floor in the SE corner. (The note is sitting on the desk in Hard.) What does it say? Yikes! A crowd of jeering onlookers appears above as the floor slowly retracts into the wall. There is no escape, you are going to flushed!

When you hit the bottom, head upstream to the grating with the corpse. Check your objectives, which have changed. Thank goodness you can use your weapons now! Collect the breath potions, healing potions and flares, and read the plaque on the wall about the vortex drain and the control room. Hmmm, it's possible that drain could be an escape route. Now go with the flow.

Near the bottom is another grating guarded by a skeleton warrior (not present in Hard). Aim to the left-hand side, squeeze through and let the flow deposit you by a large pipe near a ramshackle bridge. Be very careful here because the bridge is guarded by a giant spider and the skeleton warrior may well creep up on you from the rear. Cross the bridge and head east. You begin to put two and two together - check the new note - and you get a fresh objective. This can't be the vortex control room, so pick up the breath potions and the water arrows (behind the pipe), go back to the bridge and look around.

Vortex Control

High up on the south side is a window and across on the west side is a large switch mechanism. Go there and flip the lever above it on the right to put the light on. Climb up over the mechanism and keep climbing until you get to the broken window at the top. Jump through, and you are in the control room. Above the body in the corner is the Pool Access Hatch Lever Activation, so activate it! However, in order to reach the hatch lever you must first to find Durbage's body to get his rope. Just above the activation box is a switch for the lever light. This works on Hard but is broken on Expert.

Go round the wall and pick up the water arrow just above the barrel then walk down the ramp in the SE corner. Take care, there is a guard down here, but he probably won't hear you because of the water noise. Mantle up onto the orange pipe, open the hatch at the top and drop in. After an alarming ride you surface below another hatch. Open it, climb out and descend the ladder.

Collect the flares from the box under the table, then go over to the east side and jump up to frob the grating open. Climb back up the ladder, drop onto the grating, crouch down to enter the shaft, go left and remove the grating here then drop down to the floor.

Cross over to the other side of the pipe via the ladders to arrive at the top of an elevator shaft. Press the top button - good, it still works! The middle level gate is locked, so continue to the bottom, search the body on the floor and collect the Pump Station Stores Key. Take the elevator back up to the middle level and use that key to open the gate.

Climb the boxes in the NW corner, enter the shaft and go left to where Durbage's body is stuck in the grating. Objective complete! Collect the rope arrow and the map. Secret #1!

Go back to the elevator. The gate has closed, but there is a button to open it behind the boxes on the left. Go down to the lowest level again but this time send the elevator back up, then hop into the pit and rummage amongst the debris to find a coin (+20 = 320).

There is a purse (+50 = 370) hidden on the top of the orange pipe; you will need to climb on the box and jump up to reach it. Secret #2!

Now take the moving walkway in the NW corner to the far end. Be careful when you get there, two more guards are on patrol. Go through the rooms to the NE corner, climb two ladders, remove the box at the top and emerge back in the control room.

The Vortex

Climb back down to the left-hand edge of the bridge and drop carefully onto the left side of the orange pipe. Shoot your rope arrow into the bridge just to the left of the first handrail support. Rope down under the pipe, operate the lever, then let go and dive down through the open vortex hatch at the bottom. Flip the lever on the far side to close the hatch again and swim west to the locked gate. Climb the ladder here and operate the rotary switch situated just below the top rung to open the hatch above. (This hatch will not open if the vortex hatch is open.)

Wet Caves Control

Spin the wheel to open the watertight door and carefully climb the stairs, watching out for guards and personnel. Go into the aquarium room and collect the box under the bench. Go up a couple more steps and turn into the alcove on the left.

Use the box to help you climb up onto the switch panel, then collect a coin from the top of the pipe (+20 = 390). Secret #3! Objective Complete!

The scientist who visits here carries a pair of spectacles (+50 = 440) and the Control Room key. Enter the Wet Caves Control Room and operate the lever on the side of the Access Controls switch box. This will open the gate by the entrance ladder.

There is a box on the left of the desk opposite the window containing Holy Water (ominous!) and Healing potions. There are water arrows in the crate left of the desk. Collect the watch (+100 = 540) from the far corner of the desk and a second copy of the Control Room key that's tucked in behind the books, then make your way back downstairs.

The Wet Caves

Climb into the hatch, down the ladder and swim west to surface in the swampy Wet Caves. This is a dangerous area! First of all make your way to the body outside the control room window and collect his purse (+100 = 640). There is a broadhead in his quiver and another in the bow (in his right hand).

Now very carefully head to the west of the window and creep north. (If you disturb any of the wildlife then everything in this area, including some zombies, will come and attack you!) If you look north of the mushroom light on the left you will spot a chest. Creep over there, open it and collect a crown (+150 = 790), a sceptre (+150 =9840), a red gem (+100 = 1040 and an ankh (+50 = 1090). You now have all the loot that is available in this mission!

Sneak over to east side of the rock and look north-east. See that purple light? That's your exit! Scurry over there and go upwards along the course of the little stream. When you get past the rocks, collect the moss arrows up the stream bed to the left, then head right (S), climb the slope and mantle up into the sloping tunnel.

Keep going, and you will reach the left-hand exit from the caves opposite the wall of a building. Walk through the water on your right, scramble up to the other exit and jump across to the pipe. Drop down onto the ledge below to open the window and climb in. (If you find this difficult then climb back onto the pipe and drop onto the open window.) Enter the building.

Mission complete!
