Well I have a place for it in my circle, and I need you to go get it for me." -Master Nightfall Idea was to make a more flexible map than the normal Thief levels. Whole level is a single building that you can get in various ways. Its up to you to decide how and from where you go in. Briefing : "If you have followed my instructions, by the time you read this, you should be well on your way to the Grieving Burrick Inn. Remember when that Thief Garrett stole the scepter of fat Lord Bafford? Well I have a place for it in my circle, and I need you to go get it for me. Garrett peddled it off and it eventually came to the possession of a nobody merchant. Now, there is going to be some type of scepter convension tomorrow. Some of the attendees will be staying at the inn tonight. The man who has the Bafford stick will be there. Grab it, and couple of other scepters to throw everyone off to your true objective. You might want to take a souvenier or to two for yourself while you are in there - just remember the Bafford's scepter is mine. When you have the stick, meet the courier by the fountain, he'll take it the rest of the way to me. Oh, one last thing. Killing the power should make things easier, that is, if you like things easy. Other info : Just remember, everything that glitters is not gold, and even if can't see a ladder, it doesn't mean you can't climb it. Also note that normal Thief Levels have max of 300-400 polgons simultaneously on screen, this level has a place where there are over 800 polygons visible, so the system requirements are higher than normal. High-poly-areas are not essential, just scenery, so it does not effect the gameplay itself. * Construction * Base : None. Build Time : About 2 months ======================================================================================= * Loading information with Thief Loader* Put the gatb11.zip in the thief/missions folder. Rename the file 'Gathering at the Bar.zip' (without the quotes) Run Thief Loader, and select it from the list. * Loading information without Thief Loader* To load this Thief map: Unzip files in the archive to ..\thief Start Thief normally. Start new game, and select "Gathering at the bar". To install the 6.5MB briefing, let it overwrite b15.avi in ..\movies -directory. * Starting up GatB in more detail by Lytha * Problems starting the GatB? Here is a way described to get it working (at least, how it worked on my computer) 1.) Download the patch, the dromed, the briefing of the GatB, the GatB. Save them somewhere in a safe folder on your harddisk. 2.) Go into your Thief-folder, and rescue old savegames into the same safe folder on your harddisk. If you have already downloaded the items named in top 1, skip this point of the Howto. The safe folder should *not* be in your Thief-folder. If you have any screenshots in your Thief-folder, save them, too. 3.) Click in the Windoze-exploder on your CD, find the setup, and install the game in your former Thief-folder. It will overwrite the entire folder. Make a full installation of the game, if you have enough free space. 4.) Now you have a new and cool Thief folder. Admire it shortly, and go to the next tops. 5.) Patch the game with the patch, as usual. (patching allows you to sneak perfectly silent, if you are crouching and speed toggled and walking and moving slowly) 6.) Unzip the dromed into your new Thief-folder. Let it overwrite what it wants to overwrite (this prevents the bug that you can't use anything or grab the people) 7.) Unzip the gatb.zip into your ..\thief folder. Let it overwrite whatever it wants to. 8.) Unzip the b15.zip into your ..\thief\movie folder. 9.) Start Thief. Click on 'New Game', Click on 'GatB'. Admire it. * Uninstall information * Run the "remove_gatbar.bat" to remove all the Gathering at the bar -files. Note: Directories are not removed. If you want to keep GatB, but want to play normal Thief Mission, rename the "\strings\missflag.str" file to something different. To play GatB again, rename the file back to "missflag.str". If you don't want to see the "Gathering at the bar" option in New game -menu, rename file "\intrface\english\newgame.str" to something else. *** WARNING *** The archive includes various files that will overwrite the original ones if unzipped without prompting. Currently, with Thief ver 1.33, there are no files that are overwritten, so its safe for that version, but future patches might include some of those files. * Copyright * This level is (c) by Toni Hollming 1999.
